(PWF) is the single
largest national trade union center in Pakistan currently has eight
regional offices in the four provinces of Pakistan with an
affiliation of 419 unions and a membership of more then 880,000
workers nationwide representing the majority of unionised workers.

August 22, 2008 - Second Triennial National General
Council conference of Pakistan Workers Federation was held on 22nd July,
2008 at Bukhtiar Labour Hall, Lahore under the President ship of
Mr. Muhammad Ahmad, Chairman of the Federation which was
participated by larger number of elected members of the General
Council of the eight Regional Centers of the Federation from all
over the country having membership of 0.88 million workers both
in public and private sectors.
The Conference was presided over by Mr.
Muhammad Ahmad, President of the Federation while Mr. Noriyuki
Suzuki, General Secretary, International Trade Union
Confederation - Asia Pacific and Mr. Donglin Li, Director, ILO
Area Office, Islamabad addressed the inaugural session of the
Conference as special guests. At this occasion, the Federation
received fraternal messages from various national and
international trade union centers including Mr. Juan Somavia,
Director General, International Labour Organization and Mr. Guy
Ryder, General Secretary, International Trade Union
Confederation conveying goodwill to the working class of
Pakistan and assuring their continuous support for welfare of
the workers and achieving the economic and social progress of
the country.

A less known aspect of the life of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is that, he was a labour leader and supporter of workers' cause. He was the elected President of the All India Postal Staff Union for 1925.
Abbottabad Declaration signed in July 1994 inter alia envisaged unification of the three federations on or before July 2005. A merger plan, worked out in 2002, has been meticulously pursued.
